Beyond that, you can just watch the "Gore Reel" if all that plot-stuff isn't to your liking.

If ever you were curious about how to make a prosthetic penis bleed or cut off a human arm, then by all means, give it a watch. There's a rather basic, 15-minute featurette about the film's production that's fairly interesting from an FX perspective. Score: 7 out of 10 Packaging and Extras Unfortunately, the extras here are about as inspired as the film itself. Just don't expect anything tremendously sophisticated here with regard to multi-channel audio. The music blares the screams pierce the blood oozes – and in that sense, the audio component delivers. Score: 6 out of 10 Languages and Audio The Dolby Digital 5.1 sound mix here is pretty standard, offering a serviceable transfer with sufficient volume and bass, but lacking severely in the directional department. There are some issues with excessive grain and blown-out coloring that are more attributable to West's stylistic choices, but if the DVD release of House of the Devil proves anything it's that West can pull off the grainy, weathered look of a '70s horror film and still have it look acceptable on DVD. Detail and clarity remain an issue throughout while artifacting and digitization are also equally persistent.

Video and Presentation Even the video quality fails to make a bloody splash on this DVD release.

When the most inspired portions of your movie are the animated sequences that open and close the film, there's a problem, and at the end of the day, this is a movie that's more likely to give you Cabin Fever than alleviate your boredom. Not to mention that what little success the film is able to establish is virtually tossed aside in the third act, which utterly falls apart in the last few minutes.

Here, however, the characters simply give way to a series of nauseating gags with no real purpose but sophomoric excess. Whatever you might have thought of the cast of the original Cabin Fever, the isolated setting and overall atmosphere helped to create a sense of cohesion and terror. The concept of sending up teenage sex comedies in the horror motif isn't inherently flawed, but in this instance the film is simply too gross to be funny and too funny to make you care about its characters. Directed by Ti West, who has recently (and arguably) received some praise for his work on The House of the Devil, this sequel deserves at least some credit for attempting something new with the franchise. It's neither funny or terrifying, and it's disturbing in all the wrong ways. There are some visuals here that intend to be laugh-inducing but are just as likely to turn your stomach in the wrong direction – namely, pus-leaking genitalia and punch cups filled with blood-tinted urine, just to name a few. Whereas the original film used its gore to horrify and disturb without ever unnecessarily reveling in its red-syrup quotient, the sequel goes for the gross-out like the horror equivalent of a up American Pie. Normally, this would be an excellent quality for diehard gorehounds, but as in all things, context is king. Cabin Fever 2 is likely the goriest film we've seen in quite some time, pushing the "unrated DVD" label to its limits.
